parametric key map

Large floor plans can be broken up into different sheets and a key map is used as a map to denote which area is being placed on the sheet. One disadvantage of using key map is that they will need to be manually updated if the plan changes.

1. Edit your title block family. Draw key map using detail lines and filled regions.

Select it. Edit family.
Draw the background for the key map using detail lines.
Draw separate filled regions for each floor area.
Create a text note above each plan area for “A”, “B”, “C”…

2. Add visibility parameters to create new instance parameters for each area.

These are instance parameters because every sheet in the project will be different.

3. Associate the detail lines, filled regions, and texts with the visibility parameter.

Every part of the key plan will have to be selected and associated with the proper parameter.
i.e. Area A, select the grey filled region and text “A”
By selecting “key map A”,, and OK, the grey filled region and text A will always be associated with the Key map area A.
Associate key map boundary with Key map text so that it does not appear other than floor plan.
Select text A and filled region. Properties, click the button at Visibility. Select Key map_Area A

Load the titleblock back into the project.
Select titleblock. Properties, Visibility, there will be check boxes that can be modified per sheet.
